Takeoff description

Located in the immediate vicinity of the Daikanbo Lookout, one of the most famous tourist spots in the Mt. Aso area, itself a very well known destination in Japan. Fly with a large peanut gallery of excited tourists!

Rules and notes

None. In this way, the site is quite unique in Japan. It should be said that the site is right under the approach path of jetliners coming into nearby Kumamoto Airport. These fly overhead at 6500 feet, well within the soaring range of paragliders.

Pilot comments

One of Kyushu's premier spots with breathtaking views and situation. Flying here is not regulated but it's a very good idea to go with some local flyers as soaring conditions are fickle, landings on the bottom are difficult, and winds frequently get strong and gusty.
