Takeoff description

This area is only suitable for flying during the months of November through February. Outside of this timeframe, the city of Galveston charges a fee to access the beach as it is very crowded. In the past, all ultralights were banned from this area due to problems, however we have now restored access. Do not use the beach for flying outside of the months of November, December, January, and February.

Rules and notes

One can not fly any further west than Pleasure Pier before entering Class D airspace. One may cross over to the Bolivar Peninsula if one maintains a safe altitude. For PPG pilots, the recommendation is > 4000' AGL as it is a 2.25 mile water crossing and only flyable when the winds are appropriate. Know your wind direction and wind speeds aloft.
